What is a cpio.bz2 file?
A CPIO.BZ2 file is a CPIO archive that has been compressed using the BZIP2 compression algorithm. Like CPIO.GZ, it combines CPIOs archiving capabilities with compression, but uses BZIP2 instead of GZIP. BZIP2 typically achieves better compression ratios than GZIP, though at the cost of slower compression and decompression speeds.
This format is useful for situations where maximum compression is desired and processing time is less critical. It maintains all the advantages of CPIO archiving while providing highly efficient compression, making it suitable for long-term storage and distribution of system backups. When creating CPIO.BZ2 archives with ezyZip, date information is not included and empty directories are not added to the resulting archive file.
